Hend Zaza: 12-year-old Syrian makes history as youngest athlete at Tokyo Olympics

Hend Zaza, a Syrian table tennis player, has become the youngest player in the Tokyo Olympic Games. Zaza, who played Saturday in the Olympics for the first time, is only 12 years old. A total of 11,228 athletes are competing in the Tokyo Olympics. Zaza was only 11 years old when she secured a place last year in the Olympic qualifying Games in Jordan.

Born in 2009, Zaza is ranked 155th in the world table tennis rankings. In the selection competition, she defeated Lebanon’s Lebanon Maria 4-3. He is the first player in the history of table tennis in Syria to pass the selection stage and make it to the Olympics.

The Syrian Olympic Committee has congratulated Zaza on her participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games opening ceremony in March. “Congratulations to our champion athlete, who has become the youngest athlete since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” the Syrian Olympic Committee said in a statement. He is the first player in Syria to win all national table tennis titles at an early age.

Similarly, the oldest athlete at the Tokyo Olympics is Austrian equestrian Marie Hanna. Hannah is playing in the Olympics for the sixth time. Hannah, 66, is taking part in the Tokyo Olympics as a finalist. Han is the second oldest athlete in Olympic history.
